Common questions about the Diffused Beam Sensor

What does IP64 mean?
IP64 is a rating designed to measure how well an enclosure is protected from liquids and solid objects.

The 6 means it is "dust tight," 6 is the highest solid rating.
The 4 means it is protected from "water splashing against the enclosure from any direction"

What is the L/D dial for?
The L/D knob is used to tell the sensor how it should trigger.

In the L position (light mode) it will trigger when it senses something in front of it.
In the D position (dark mode) it will trigger constantly, and turn off the trigger when something is in front of it.
Do strobe lights interfere with this sensor?
Yes, strobe lights can interfere with the Diffused Beam Sensor. There is no way to be sure, it varies based on conditions.
Does fog interfere with this sensor?
Yes, very heavy fog can interfere with the Diffused Beam Sensor. There is no way to be sure, it varies based on conditions.
Can this be used outdoors?
This devices is IP64 rated, so it should be safe in most conditions outside. It should not be submerged underwater, or used in below-freezing temperatures.

We recommend building a little cover for it just to be safe.
